Helmut Lang heavy blue denim jacket from S/S 2004. In excellent used condition with natural fading. Made in Italy.

S/S 2004 is one of Helmut Lang's most famous seasons and many of its captivating designs are now part of modern fashion history. Lang's typical sharp silhouettes were intensified by abstracted shapes, elastic straps, cut-outs and unexpected splashes of reflective materials. While many of the collection's denim designs were not shown on the runway, their sophistication certainly makes them worth the attention of Helmut Lang collectors. 

This jacket features Lang's 'classic 2-pocket' design, based on the classic Levi's 557XX jacket from the early 1960's. Like the original, the jacket has a panelled torso construction with two chest pockets. The aesthetic is purist, streamlined and is further complemented by an unconventional overdyed denim in an distinctive blue hue. Originally white, the heavy fabric has been piece-dyed for a deep and saturated finish with a vintage texture. The fabric's original colour slowly reveals itself in the form of beautiful lighter-coloured fades that form after extended wear. The silhouette is narrow, with a fitted straight body and slightly elongated sleeves. A strong point collar and waist tabs complete the design.

The construction of this piece is exemplary like all Helmut Lang denim garments. Precise flat-fell seams protect the interior from undesirable fraying while making the jacket completely reversible. The hardware has an antique silver finish and is engraved with the Helmut Lang logo. Upon a closer inspection, we can see that cotton thread has been used for all stitching, achieving a similar dye effect as the main fabric that complements the rugged aesthetic. 

Overall, this jacket is a beautiful example of Lang's supremely executed denim basics. While being effortless and versatile, its unique fabric and precise silhouette set it apart from ordinary denim jackets and will make it one of your favourite casual pieces.
